When adopting a healthy-eating plan, salads are a nutritional no-brainer. But while loading up on non-starchy veggies is a smart choice for weight loss, it can also leave you feeling deprived, leading to binge-eating later on. To keep salads satisfying, add a crunchy, creamy, or sweet element, like nuts and seeds, avocado, or dried fruit. And be sure to top salad with a filling protein like grilled chicken or fish.
The Keto diet is high in fat, moderate in protein and extremely low in carbs. It’s a highly effective diet as it takes into account accurate tracking of your meals, to find the right body balance, followed by charting your goals. I’m a big fan of the low-carb diet. Not only has it been shown to be more effective than a low-fat diet, but it bestows many additional health benefits over a typical diet.
Scott Leopold attempted his first diet at 19, when he weighed 438 lbs. He was in college and often drank alcohol and finished the night off with fatty foods such as chicken wings or sweets and chips. “I wouldn’t think twice about eating two whole pizzas,” he tells PEOPLE. After he lost his first 100 lbs., he and his friends “celebrated” at a buffet.
Ketogenic diets originated in the 1920s as a treatment for epilepsy, but they’ve since been credited for promoting a number of health benefits ranging from improved insulin sensitivity to everyday mental clarity, in addition to fast weight loss. Strict ketogenic—or “keto”—dieters limit carbohydrate intake to about 5% of their daily calories while keeping protein intake at around 20%. Fats, then, make up close to 75% of their calories. (For more details on setting up various ketogenic diets, see our guide HERE.)
The strategy can be a successful one: According to research published in the journal Diabetes & Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research & Reviews, the keto diet may burn 10 times as much fat as other diets. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's the best option for everyone—including vegetarians. (Look at how the keto diet transformed Jen Widerstrom's body.)
Some do, and some don't. Similarly to sugar alcohols, different sweeteners have different glycemic indexes. Powdered versions of artificial sweeteners like splenda and even natural ones like stevia have added carbs that come from maltodextrin and other fillers, so stay away from those. Here are the best sweeteners to use while on vegetarian keto (all of them have a glycemic index of zero):
The diet of the moment is the ketogenic plan—people turn to it to lose weight, to manage chronic illness, or to find a healthier lifestyle. This high-protein plan focuses on meat, however. The goal is to eliminate carbs, jack up the protein, and force the body to burn fat for fuel (instead of its preferred source: carbohydrates). This phenomenon is called ketosis—but the meat focus prevents vegetarians from experimenting with the plan. Now there’s a vegetarian keto diet—dubbed ketotarian—that draws on nonmeat sources of protein. Here’s what you need to know about the vegetarian keto diet. Read the 13 things people get wrong about the keto diet.
"I weighed 200 pounds when I had to get a hysterectomy in 2011 to undo damage caused by an infection. Afterward, I was lethargic and gained 53 pounds. I was put on two different medications for high blood pressure and another one for acid reflux, plus I had high cholesterol and was prediabetic. I was also having heart palpitations, so I went to a cardiologist and was diagnosed with sleep apnea and put on an oxygen tank at night. My family doctor told me that my sleep apnea would probably go away if I lost weight."

It only took a year and a half for my weight to climb up 30 pounds and my body to become unrecognizable. This happened from a stressful job, late night eating and chocolate had become my best friend. I realize now I ate a LOT of chocolate!! That added up to a sugar addiction, mood swings and weight gain. Yuck! I looked and felt dumpy. I looked and felt OLD and UGLY and my clothes kept getting tighter and tighter. Every time I looked into the mirror I hated what I had become. I loathed myself and how I looked. I had no clue how to get out of this "ever expanding woman" syndrome and I felt a bit more hopeless - not good. I'd seen Samantha's ads and the photos always caught my attention. I knew I needed help to get myself back. I knew I needed to be educated about what, when and how to eat. Also I like the concept of accountability. I like having a well defined plan and having someone mentor me through that plan. I must experience success or I will lose interest and give up. Samantha's ads and testimony on her web site gave me the belief that I would experience success with her.I set very high standards for myself and Samantha set them higher. When I turned 56 in August a week later I called Samantha for an interview. I did not like being asked how I was going to change my life so that I could succeed at her program but I knew I would do whatever I needed to do to get myself back. And I knew that Samantha had the knowledge, skills, talent to assist me on that journey. Her program was absolutely what I needed. Samantha is the most determined person I have ever met. I made my commitment not only to her but to myself as well. I can honestly say it was NOT difficult but it took determination, patience and consistent dedication. I did NOT feel deprived; I felt empowered and that is VERY important to me! I understood the mistakes I made in portion sizes and the timing of my meals. Being free of my cravings for chocolate within 1 week was amazing! And I lost 26" in the first 4 weeks. Wahoo!

“I was supposed to be a leader of soldiers, and I could barely pass the Army physical test,” Cines — who weighed 200 lbs. at her highest — told PEOPLE. “I was embarrassed. My soldiers looked up to me and I had to counsel them when they couldn’t meet the standards, and yet I myself couldn’t meet the standards. I just felt like a hypocrite and a fake.”
Ever wonder why McDonald’s color scheme is yellow and red? “We are naturally drawn to red, yellow and orange in our dining area or restaurants because psychologically it stimulates us to want to eat -- and eat a lot. Studies show if you put your food on blue plates it can cause you to eat less,” says Tamal Dodge, a certified yoga instructor in Santa Monica, Calif. and star of the “Element: Hatha & Flow Yoga for Beginners” DVD.

It’s worth noting that while the ketogenic diet has many merits that extend beyond purely the weight loss benefits, at 8fit, we believe in well-rounded, balanced eating rooted in fresh, unprocessed whole foods. While cashews are lower on the list of “great” keto foods, they are still a high-fat nut that is usable in the vegan keto diet. Since cheese is a much-loved addition to the ketogenic diet in the classic sense, there’s no reason why those wanting to have the same indulgence on a plant-based diet can’t participate. By counting your carbs, this is a fine addition to the menu.
This sugar-free macadamia shortbread cookie recipe is so lovely in its simplicity. Dipped in a sugar-free dark chocolate glaze and sprinkled with macadamia nuts, this keto twist on the classic holiday shortbread is a real beauty. This low carb shortbread is the perfect solution if you're feeling stuck between staying keto and craving your favorite holiday treats.
In Minneapolis, Minnesota, a survey revealed that 94 percent of residents would be willing to buy more fresh produce if it were stocked at local corner stores. In response to this, the city launched the Minneapolis Healthy Corner Store Program that requires convenience stores to stock fresh produce. This trend might be spreading to other areas in the coming years
Speaking of skiing…  I also need to begin exercising more frequently.  That will be my big push this month.  I’m already in a 5k preparation group at our church, but that’s only once a week and I’m not running.  I’m walking.  I’m supposed to walk 2 more days a week, but sometimes I let that slip.  I’m also planning to start the 15 minute T-tapp workout.  When I do this workout regularly, I drop inches like crazy.  In fact, I was just reading testimonials from last year’s T-Tapp 60 Day Challenge and saw where one lady lost over 50 inches from just doing that 15 minute video and some basic walking.  Craziness!  I’ll be starting the 60 Day Challenge again on the 20th of February.  Feel free to join me.. after all, you can get away with just 15 minutes a day… and some consistency!
Vitamin D - Vitamin D is another essential vitamin for the body, which uses it for many tasks. Vitamin D is required to move your muscles, fire your neurons, and fight off foreign pathogens. It also helps the body absorb calcium, aiding in the strengthening of bones. Vitamin D might also help combat depression. Unfortunately, it is also nearly exclusively derived from animal products.
"I was 251 pounds at the time, so walking laps around my neighborhood was all I could muster at first. I knew I had a lot to lose, but I was starting at square one. To stay motivated, I celebrated each 10-pound loss with a new clothing item. As I slimmed down, I noticed shopping was fun again. At one point, I tried on a pair of size 16 jeans and I wasn't sure if they would fit. (I started out a size 22.) When I was able to zip and button them, I stared at the mirror with my mouth open—I couldn't believe it! I was so excited that I ran out of
Now this recipe looks like exactly the type of meal you’ll be craving when following a plant-based keto diet, but appearances aside, it’s actually not only vegan and keto-friendly, but paleo-proof too! Those noodles aren’t, in fact, your usual wheat or rice variety. They’re the miraculously carb-free, fat-free, sugar-free shirataki noodles! Top with an almond butter sauce and your favorite veggies and you’ve got one of the yummiest quick and easy keto recipes.
Snacks are very important when you are on the keto diet. It’s often the time between lunch and dinner when you can slip up and ruin your diet. These keto snack crackers can be stored in a zip-top bag for 5 days and are the perfect thing to munch on at work or school when you get a hankering. If you need more keto snack ideas, then check out our spinach and feta muffins and our low carb cheesy cauliflower tot recipe.
The benefits of a low-carb keto diet are also hard to pass up. It's one of, if not the strongest weight loss diet through ketosis. Keto may also improve acne, brain health, and seizure frequency, improve heart health, and combat type 2 diabetes, as well as assist with a host of other conditions. Others that adhere to the keto diet also self-report other benefits:

Vegans consume no animal products. Like vegetarians, they don’t eat meat, poultry, or fish, but they also avoid dairy, eggs, and other foods that contain even trace amounts of animal ingredients. Most vegans won’t eat gelatin (made from bones), casein (a milk protein), and fish oil supplements, or refined sugar (some brands of which use cow bones as a whitening agent).
low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) in people with type 2 diabetes who also take medicines to treat type 2 diabetes. Saxenda® can cause low blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes who also take medicines used to treat type 2 diabetes (such as sulfonylureas). In some people, the blood sugar may get so low that they need another person to help them. If you take a sulfonylurea medicine, the dose may need to be lowered while you use Saxenda®. Signs and symptoms of low blood sugar may include: shakiness, sweating, headache, drowsiness, weakness, dizziness, confusion, irritability, hunger, fast heartbeat, and feeling jittery. You should check your blood sugar before you start taking Saxenda® and while you take Saxenda®
"We know that reducing your carbs to a very low percentage of your daily calories can stimulate ketosis, [which is] when your brain and body begins to run on ketones (aka fat) rather than carbs for fuel," says Abbey Sharp, R.D. And that stands true whether you eat animal products or not. "Ketosis has been shown to help promote weight loss because it helps suppress your hunger hormones and therefore your appetite, while also promoting substantial water loss to reduce bloating," she adds. My wife and I decided to see Samantha early in 2006 because we decided that it was time for a change. I had decided to participate in the MS150 ride, a 172 mile two day charity cycling event to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the date was fast approaching. With that goal in mind and the hope of carrying less weight with me on those 172 miles, I went to Samantha hoping that she could help me prepare for the event. I had never worked with a trainer before and, to be honest, working out with weights intimidated me. I never really learned how to use any of the equipment in a gym and I really didn’t understand the principles of weight training. Moreover, I didn’t really understand anything about how to eat (perhaps that’s why I managed to gain weight while cycling semi-regularly).
As, yes, the age-old question: but where do you get your protein? If you’ve been plant-based for any amount of time, you’ve likely heard this asked in at least five different ways. At least here in North America, it seems as though people really struggle to wrap their heads around the idea that you can get enough protein without eating meat, dairy or eggs. This issue becomes especially pronounced when we talk about vegan keto diets.
To help lower their carb intake, keto dieters are advised to cut out all grains, legumes, and high-carb fruit and vegetables. Ketoers are also encouraged to boost their intake of high-fat dairy, fatty cuts of meat, fatty fish, and nuts and seeds. Ketoers also need to stay moderate with protein-rich food like eggs, lean cuts of meat, meat substitutes, and low-carb fruit and vegetables.
is anyone thinking here about actually ‘being in ketosis’? Isn’t that part of it – no matter what is put together on a sample menu – i thought you had to have equipment and measure whether you are actually ‘in’ ketosis and also measuring the carbs to assist with this. Then and only then (at least as i understand it) does the weight loss begin. Correct? Can these keto stix etc. not be purchased at the pharmacy?
One is Keto Chow, who have their own subreddit (which is surprisingly active). This supplement is really great for keto, but it may or may not be vegetarian. The company sources their Vitamin D3 from the coats of sheep, their K2 from microorganisms, their protein powder from dairy, and potentially their Omega 3s from fish oil. If you’re less strict on vegetarianism, this meal replacement is GREAT at a low .5g net carbs per scoop. There are also a ton of different flavors you can try.

The Keto diet is high in fat, moderate in protein and extremely low in carbs. It’s a highly effective diet as it takes into account accurate tracking of your meals, to find the right body balance, followed by charting your goals. I’m a big fan of the low-carb diet. You know you probably shouldn’t, but sometimes you eat in front of the TV or computer. But do you know how much it affects your waistline? Studies show that we eat around 40 percent more when watching TV and we’re more likely to eat junk food while distracted. To lose weight without major sacrifice, power down your TV, computer or smart phone during dinner and concentrate only on your meal.
MacDowell has been following the veggie lover ketogenic diet for a long time. She’d been a veggie lover for quite a while before that yet chose to attempt keto in view of weight reduction. Some examination recommends the ketogenic diet might be helpful, therefore: An investigation distributed in May 2013 in the British Journal of Nutrition found the ketogenic diet prompted more prominent weight reduction than a low-fat diet and could be valuable in battling corpulence.
If you have an understanding of the keto diet and how it works, you will realize that the whole essence of the diet does not tally with what an average vegetarian consumes. Keto diet is all for high-fat, moderate protein and low carbs, vegetarian diet, on the other hand, is packed with carbohydrates and the struggle of balancing protein intake. Therefore, it is not surprising that a number of vegetarians find it difficult reconciling both diets.
“I love how our bodies are designed to respond to exercise. If I am willing to be consistent and work hard, I’ve learned my body can accomplish amazing things. I enjoy hard work and running as fast as I can, for as far as I can, in the most efficient way possible. Because I haven’t always enjoyed good health, I really appreciate being able to run and exercise. Each day I am able to run and be active fills me with gratitude because I personally understand how so many others aren’t as blessed.”
Preliminary studies have also linked the keto diet to certain diseases, including diabetes. A study published in September 2016 in the Journal of Obesity and Eating Disorders, for instance, found the presence of ketones in the blood can lower HbA1c levels, potentially by way of ketone bodies decreasing glucose metabolism, and benefit people with type 2 diabetes.

Tell your health care provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Saxenda® slows stomach emptying and can affect medicines that need to pass through the stomach quickly. Saxenda® may affect the way some medicines work and some other medicines may affect the way Saxenda® works. Tell your health care provider if you take diabetes medicines, especially sulfonylurea medicines or insulin.

Hi Tom, thanks for your comment. Carrots and onions are okay in a keto diet as long as they are eaten in moderation. Obviously, I am not saying this chili should be eaten everyday if you are on keto. It is fine if you are having it once in a while and watching your carb intake throughout the day. The canned tomatoes I used do not have any added sugar or additives so that is okay. Thanks for your comment and I am in no way trying to lie to my viewers.

Cheese dip - You could make this spinach artichoke dip, this spicy sausage cheese dip (provided that you use a vegetarian sausage alternative, which are very good), a mexican 7-layer dip, or a personal pan pizza dip and then you can use keto breadsticks, keto tortilla chips celery, raw bell peppers, kale chips, Quest chips or cheese crisps to dip. Yum!!

This way of consuming is hard to stay with because it combines two restrictive diets. Mass believes the dangers outweigh the advantages. But if making a decision to attempt it, Mass cautions to technique the food regimen cautiously, preferably below the guidance of a certified registered dietitian who will let you select your ingredients strategically and ensure you are supplementing the weight loss program in which wanted. Mass also shows lowering your carb intake regularly instead of going complete-blown vegetarian keto overnight so you don’t completely surprise your device.

You're more likely to see big changes in the number if you weigh yourself less often. Why? Because if you weigh yourself once a week, the result will be the total number of pounds lost over seven days. If you weigh yourself every day, you're likely to see small changes and you may even see weight gain. There are many different reasons that your weight changes every day and it is not always the result of how well you followed your diet.
Fat is important on the keto diet, but especially so if you are vegan or vegetarian. “Aim to get 75 percent or more of your calories from plant-based fats like coconut oil, coconut cream/butter, MCT oil, olive oil, avocado, and—in lesser amounts—nuts and seeds,” says Dr. Axe. “Keep nut and seed consumption to about 1/4 cup per day (or two tablespoons of nut butter), since these do provide some carbs and can also be hard to digest in large amounts.” To help with absorption of minerals, he recommends soaking or sprouting nuts first.

Despite the fact that MacDowell has stayed with it for so long, she concedes along these lines of eating can be extreme in social circumstances. “It’s not just the response of your relatives who will reveal to you eating that much fat will execute you, yet going out for hors-d’oeuvres and drinks with companions is testing,” she says. “You figure out how to function around it, yet there’s an expectation to absorb information without a doubt.”

The first few days of switching to a ketogenic diet sucks. You'll feel hunger pangs, cravings, grumpy and probably suffer flu-like symptoms. You may even feel light-headed, sometimes. There are a number of reasons for this, including changes in gut biota, as various colonies are "screaming at you" for food, but mainly as your body initially will be looking for a quick glucose energy source, before switching metabolic states and preferring ketones, instead. This takes some patience and discipline.
When it comes to buying keto-friendly vegan options, make sure you are not getting any extra added sugar, hidden carbs, or unhealthy ingredients like hydrogenated oils. Also, pay attention to their fat and protein content. These vegan replacements will not contain as much fat or protein as conventional dairy and eggs. Make sure you are taking this into account when you are using these alternatives in recipes and tracking your macros.

Heat a non stick pan over medium high heat and add 5 tsp of ghee to it. When the ghee becomes hot, roll the spinach leaves in the dry mixture to coat the leaves and start putting them in the hot ghee. Cover the pain with a lid and cook for 5 minutes. Turn the leaves and cook from other side for another 5 minutes. Remove the spinach pakoras and serve hot.

By opting for RSPO-certified or CSPO products, you will be casting a vote for sustainable oil producers that are dedicated to protecting the environment.

These keto crackers have less than 5 net grams of carbs per serving and are the ultimate mid-day snack to help you stay on your low carb diet. You will need two cups of almond flour for this cracker recipe, Costco sells it for $4 per pound now, which is the best deal I have seen! Combine the almond flour, sunflower seed flour, salt, and rosemary in a large bowl for the dry ingredients. The entire cracker recipe is gluten free because we are using nut flours, which works great in this type of recipe.
Barley got its hunger-fighting reputation after Swedish researchers found that eating barley or rye kernels for breakfast kept blood sugar on an even keel. That's because the carbs in barley and rye kernels are "low glycemic index," meaning they raise blood sugar more slowly than some other carbohydrate foods. This helps you avoid a spike, and then a drop, in blood sugar, which can leave you feeling famished.

“I lost most of my weight (200 lbs.) in about 18 months so I have had to stay busy to keep it off,” he says. “I am extremely competitive and have an amazing network of friends and the From Fat To Finish Line (FFTFL) community. I like to join training groups and training clubs because of the friendships and accountability it creates. It would be easy for me to blow off a 10-mile run at 5:30 on a Friday morning, but I know I have two friends meeting me, who I would never let down.”

You tell yourself you're not going to order dessert, but the minute you see the fudgy chocolate cake delivered to the table next to you, all your good intentions go out the door. To help you ward off temptations, Abbey Sharp, RD, a nutrition consultant in Toronto, recommends having a treat waiting at home. "Before you go out to eat, put aside a portion-controlled sweet for yourself at home, like a small cookie or a square of melted dark chocolate with fresh berries," says Sharp. Or try whipping up a dessert for the entire family, like a light angel food cake with fresh berries, that will give everyone something to look forward to.
The moment I walked into Samantha’s office and started talking to her I knew I found what I was searching for. I had realistic goals and I was willing to put in the time and effort to lose the weight the healthy way. Samantha was fantastic. She was able to relate to my personal story and actively listened to me. She shared her background with me and I could tell she was confident she could help me achieve my fitness goals. We worked out a plan together and when I left her studio that night I felt that a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. I had confidence that I was going to get the results I wanted and it felt wonderful to regain control. I realized that I had made a change from feeling sorry for myself to being empowered and taking control over my habits again. I was truly energized and so excited to put my plan into action with Samantha’s guidance! Over the next three months I underwent the biggest transformation of my life as I worked out with one of Samantha’s personal trainers, Chris Williams, only three days a week. I completely kicked my dependence on food for comfort as I followed Samantha’s inspiration and incorporating healthy food into my life. I saw immediate results both in my physical appearance and in the way I felt. Each week as I saw the pounds melting away, it gave me even more inspiration to work harder. I was transforming my lifestyle and that was a key attribute to my success.
After her first pregnancy with her daughter in 2003, Cloutier hit 301 lbs., and was ready for a change. “I didn’t want to die,” she says. “I wanted to watcher grow up and give her healthy habits.” By working out with a trainer and choosing healthier meals, she successfully lost 151 lbs., and maintained a healthy weight through her second pregnancy in 2008.
Plate sizes have certainly changed over the years, increasing in diameter just like our waistlines. Our great grandmother's dinner plates looked like today's salad plates. “We're all visual, and it's so much easier to eat the right portion and feel satisfied when we eat on smaller plates,” says Cheryl Harris, MPH, RD, holistic nutrition coach in Virginia. If you’re eating in a restaurant that's using plates the size of manhole covers, try ordering your own salad or appetizer and sharing a main dish. When dining out alone, ask the server to wrap half your dish in a doggy bag before it's served, and enjoy the rest on a smaller appetizer plate — you'll never know what you're missing!
The amount of carbs are like calories, it depends on what kind and how much you are eating. Eat fruit, it has much needed nutrients but some choices are better than others. Eat whole fruits rather than drinking the juice because the fruit has fiber and the juice is pure sugar. Eat a serving of fruit at a time and not an entire bowl of it. Eating less bad carbs will reduce your cravings. A piece of fruit here and there will soon become a more than adequate sweet for you.
As I'm sure you've heard time and time again, a keto diet is a high fat, moderate protein, low carb diet. On a vegetarian keto diet, hitting your macros, especially protein, can be more of a challenge than for those who eat meat. Maybe you're not a fan of protein powders or the vegetarian meat substitutes you like are high in carbs. So, what options do you have?
I’ve also heard some of my vegan friends say that they’re going to give a keto lifestyle a try to help them lose weight. Personally, Travis and I don’t follow a vegan keto diet, we just live a very simple and easy vegan lifestyle and eat whatever we want (within reason). However, I wanted to put together a list of vegan keto recipes to help anyone thinking about trying a keto diet this year.
My wife and I decided to see Samantha early in 2006 because we decided that it was time for a change. If you feel like everything is off limits, we're here to help. Yes, following a keto diet when you're vegan is difficult...but not impossible! You may not be living off bacon and eggs like some of your other keto friends, but with these avocado, almond butter, and coconut milk-filled recipes, your stomach will still be full and happy. And if you're vegan-ish, be sure to check out our vegetarian keto recipes too, for those times you want to slip in a little dairy.

Dr. Axe recommends getting no more than 20 percent of your daily calories from plant-based sources of proteins, since eating too much protein will interfere with ketosis. “Most beans and legumes will contribute too many carbs to your diet and too little protein,” he says. “The best sources of low-carb protein are plant-based protein powders (like hemp, brown rice, or pea protein) and fermented soy products like tempeh.” Other plant-based sources of protein in your diet can include nutritional yeast, nuts and seeds, and even vegetables.
If you’ve read through this entire guide, bravo. It’s huge, much bigger than I ever intended, actually. I’m really passionate about both vegetarianism and the ketogenic diet, so I honestly had a lot of fun producing all this information for you. I hope it was helpful, that you learned something, and that you feel better equipped to take on this mash-up diet.

Yes, you read that right. A vegetarian keto diet means you can load up on the cheese. Freshly sliced mozzarella is packed with protein and fat, making it a perfect accessory for a vegetarian keto diet. Simply top vegetables like portobello mushrooms, eggplant rounds, or zucchini noodles with mozzarella and/or grated Parmesan for an instant protein boost. If you want a cheesy snack that is anything but cheesy, a buffalo chicken dip – sans the chicken – is a delightful keto diet food that pairs perfectly with celery or carrots and fits nicely with a vegetarian lifestyle. This eggplant lasagna loaded with creamy ricotta cheese is perfect for any Italian lover. Just remove the sausage.
The bottom line? This way of eating is tough to stick with because it combines two restrictive diets. Mass believes the risks outweigh the benefits. But if you decide to try it, Mass cautions to approach the diet carefully, ideally under the guidance of a qualified registered dietitian who can help you pick your foods strategically and ensure you are supplementing the diet where needed. Mass also suggests reducing your carb intake gradually rather than going full-blown vegetarian keto overnight so you don’t completely shock your system.
I purchased all of your freezer to slow cooker ebooks a month or so ago and I'm in love with this way of cooking.  I now have taken all 10 weeks of recipes and written them of my menu planner and then I repeated the 10 weeks and will continue to do so throughout the year.  My family of 5 adults and 1 child enjoy the meals that you have planned and I have cooked and I'm excited that the next time when that meal comes due up in the rotation I won't have to purchase anything but just pull it from the freezer.  Thank you so much
One solid piece of advice is to, no matter how tempting it is, try to avoid telling anyone that you've started vegetarian keto. I know many people use this as a tactic to publicly commit themselves to a diet, but a niche diet like this comes under a lot of ridicule. Having people intruding on and questioning your personal choices so much can be discouraging and frankly, annoying. Share at your own risk.
While there are nutritional benefits associated with eating red meats and poultry in moderation, you can certainly still live a ketogenic lifestyle without them. In fact, looking at the bigger picture, the keto diet and vegetarian diet are more sustainable ways of dieting because they rely less on eating massive quantities of meat. Here are a few keto diet recipes you can try today:
Blue Diamond nut varieties - Blue Diamond nuts are notoriously low in carbs. Their typical salted almonds only have 2g net carbs per 24 nuts! Even their dark chocolate almonds only have 6g net carbs per serving. They have tons of other flavors as well, which makes for awesome variety in your snacking (a big problem for keto-goers) - you won’t get bored of this stuff.

These omega-3 fats provide building blocks for cellular structures throughout the body and aid in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Fish oil is the most common source of DHA and EPA, but a good vegan source—and one that, arguably, offers a better concentration of DHA—is algae (which is where those oily fish get their omega-3s from anyway). By supplementing with algae oil, you’re effectively cutting out the middle-fish. Aim for about 300mg/day.
While it hasn’t been formally studied, “it is generally observed that, if you are keto-adapted,” says D’Agostino, “it is easy to fast for prolonged periods of time. This has practical benefits for occupations where stopping to eat would be an inconvenience—such as for military personnel—and jobs where you do not want to lose the flow of productivity.” If you do get hungry during a fast, D’Agostino recommends taking a supplement that provides ketones (known as exogenous ketones), which will help sustain ketosis and energy. “I typically take a ketone supplement late afternoon and follow up with a whole-food meal in the evening,” he says.
Great tips! I really love the keto diet and I’ve made a lot of progress in changing my eating habits in the past year. One thing that really helped me get started was having access to a quality ketogenic diet cookbook. Recently I found one that offers 148 ketogenic recipes complete with meal planning tips. It also provides you with handy list of high-carb foods to avoid and advice on how to neutralize your cravings for those foods. The recipes are amazing and there’s enough recipes there to keep you from getting bored with your diet. I highly recommend it. Just click the link below to get instant access:
